The goal of the WX mentoring program is to promote the advancement of women in the real estate professions by introducing mentees to career opportunities and female leaders in various real estate fields. Through formal programs and both formal and informal mentoring, WX aims to provide young women in the real estate industry an opporunity to leverage the knowledge and experience of WX members as they begin their real estate careers. All WX scholarship recipients are eligible to participate in the program.

The 2012-2013 mentoring program includes the following events:

September 27, 2012
The first program included two parts and provided mentees with an opportunity to learn about development and hone public speaking skills. WX member Jennifer Schwartzman, Senior Managing Director of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, led the program in which mentee teams created a development plan for a New York City block, with a presentation of their development proposals at a follow-up session.

The first session also included a review of best practices for public speaking and discussion around the preparation of effective visual aids for speakers, such as PowerPoint presentations.

Each group presented its plan at the next mentoring event.

December 11, 2012
The second program of the year provided the opportunity for mentees to present their development plans before their peers, mentors and WX members. Each group received feedback on their development plan and their presentation skills.

January 31, 2013
The third mentoring program of the year was a cooking class with mentors and mentees. This provided an opporutnity to participate in team building and informal conversations about the importance of a healthy work/life balance. After the cooking class, all guests had the opportunity to sit down and enjoy the meal prepared by the team.

April 2013
The final mentoring program of the year will include a tour of a significant New York City development project. More information to follow.

This program is designed to supplement WX programming that is already available to scholarship recipients, including Perspectives (WX's annual gathering of members and junior real estate professionals), Conversations (an interactive panel discussion with industry leaders), and our monthly member breakfasts.

An meeting for WX members who are interested in volunteering as mentors takes place each spring, and information about the program is provided to past scholarship recipients at the scholarship recipient reception in June.
