WX Scholarship: Outreach

The Arlene Wysong Memorial Scholarship
at The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem

The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem is a college prep public school established to serve inner city young women. WX chose to support this school because its goals align with the goals of WX which are to raise expectations, improve performance and inspire leadership. WX support goes toward comprehensive college preparation for these young women including SAT tutoring through the College Bound program, college counseling, and parent education on the college selection process and financial aid matters.

Arlene Wysong, a founder of WX, was a leader in the commercial real estate industry as early as the 1980’s, a time when there were fewer opportunities for women. She was very passionate about the importance of education and recognized the need for students of all ages to be able to ask thoughtful and sometimes provocative questions; to undertake independent research; and, ultimately, to give back to the community. Arlene loved working with spirited young women, particularly those who were hungry to learn and had empathy for others. She would be incredibly proud of the talented YWLS students who are the beneficiaries of CollegeBound and the work of The Young Women’s Leadership Foundation.
